Is ADHD Real?
Many Christians have been taught to believe that ADHD is not a biological disorder but rather a lack of discipline or will and that persons who struggle with ADHD are just lazy, slothful, or undisciplined.
This is simply untrue.
ADHD is a biological illness involving deficits in the function of the prefrontal cortex and related neuronal pathways involved in processing environmental stimuli. These impaired networks affect both control of attention and inhibitory control networks, which is why a person with ADHD may be very distractible and may start many projects at one time but never see them through to completion.

People with ADHD may struggle to “get things done,” but this is not because of laziness or personal sin.
A number of treatments are available to treat ADHD, many of which have been proven to be very effective. These include medications, behavioral therapy, and ADHD coaching.
As I tell all my patients, you have to be careful about what you read on the internet about ADHD.
